The university grew out of the work of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the
great Muslim reformer and statesman, who in the aftermath of the Indian War of
Independence of 1857 felt that it was important for Muslims to gain education
and become involved in the public life and government services in India. Raja
Jai Kishan helped Sir Syed in establishing the university
Aligarh Muslim University (popularly known as AMU) was
established in 1920 as a public university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. AMU is a
member of AIU (Association of Indian Universities), and its courses are
approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Aligarh Muslim University is ranked 9th by the India Today.

Library
AMU Library is known as the Maulana Azad Library. It's the
second-largest University Library in Asia. It has a massive collection of more
than 11.5 lakh documents and books. The Library was initially described to be
the Lytton Library. There are periodicals, around 10,000 of which are from the
class, that are in Persian, Hindi, Urdu as well as Arabic. There are also books
on diverse subjects of Science & Technology. The library is well-equipped
with a PC research lab. The library has a wide collection of publications in
English. Additionally, AMU promotes open access to online resources for its
students, academics, and students in addition.
Hostel
AMU University provides comfortable and well-appointed hostel
accommodation to students both on-campus and off- campus. Room accommodation is
extended on a firstcome- first-serve basis to students. Students can avail
hostel rooms either on a single or a shared basis.
Sports:
AMU University believes that sports plays a pivotal role in
moulding one's personality and maintaining good health. We've specially
developed a sports-centric environment that matches international standards and
gives a truly global experience to all our students. Moreover, the university
celebrates an Annual Sports Day every year to provide a platform to our
students to exhibit their athletic talents in front of their friends and
family. Sporting facilities are offered for games like: • Cricket • Volleyball
• Badminton • Basketball • Gymnasium • Football • Table Tennis
Transportation Facility:
Transport facility is provided to the students, faculty and staff.
The University has its own fleet of buses which not only take care of daily
transportation, but also used for students outings like entertainment and study
tours, industrial visits etc.
Medical facilities
AMU University has well equipped functional infirmary which caters
for the First Aid and limited our patient medical services.
Training & Placement For Aligarh Muslim University
The university has a Placement Cell that looks after the students
and helps & assists them in becoming employable and valuable employees.
This cell trains the students well so that they can become skilled manpower
with knowledge. This cell is responsible for conducting on-campus placement
drives and providing the students with a platform where they can connect with
industry experts through workshops, seminars, special lectures, etc. This cell
helps the students in recognising their talents and helps them grab the best
